Emergency landing of helicopter in Kedarnath Dham, devotees narrowly escape due to the presence of mind of the pilot

Rudraprayag, May 24 (HS). A helicopter in Kedarnath Dham was saved from crashing due to the presence of mind of the pilot and the lives of all the 6 devotees sitting in it including the pilot were saved. It is being told that the helicopter had to make an emergency landing due to technical fault. The pilot was successful in making an emergency landing of the completely uncontrolled helicopter on the hill adjacent to the helipad and averted a major accident.

On Friday morning at 6:55, Crystal Aviation's helicopter took off from Shersi helipad for Kedarnath. As soon as the helicopter reached 100 meters before Kedarnath helipad at 7:01, it developed a technical fault, due to which it could not land on the helipad. Pilot Captain Kalpesh tried twice to land the helicopter on the helipad, but the helicopter started moving in a circle and started wobbling from above the helipad and falling towards the ravine. The pilot was so smart that he managed to make an emergency landing on the hill near the helipad before the helicopter crashed, which saved the lives of all the 6 passengers including the pilot. Along with the pilot, the passengers in the helicopter were Shivaji, Ullu Bankat Chalam, Maheshwari, Sundara Raj, Sumati, Mayur Baghwani, residents of Tamil Nadu.

District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar said that as per the information given by the District Disaster Management Officer, the helicopter of Crystal Aviation Company took off from Shersi, in which due to technical fault, the helicopter had to make an emergency landing before the Kedarnath helipad. Due to the presence of mind of the pilot, a major accident was averted. The pilot did not lose his patience and showed presence of mind and averted a major accident. He said that orders have been given for investigation in the matter.

District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that during the incident, police and administration officials and employees went to the spot and helped the passengers and took them to the temple. Currently, the DGCA is investigating the technical fault in the helicopter and the incident. Only after the investigation is complete, the aviation company will be able to start flights to Kedarghati. The passengers who have booked their tickets in the said helicopter company are being provided flight arrangements through other helicopter companies as far as possible.
