Villagers of Garihara will vote, decision of vote boycott changed after Panki MLA's persuasion

Palamu, May 18 (Hindustan Reporter) Villagers of Garihara, Jaspur and Hedum, very remote areas of Panki block of the district, will vote on May 20. On the persuasion of Panki MLA Dr. Shashi Bhushan Mehta, all the villagers withdrew the decision of vote boycott on Saturday.

The villagers of Garihara and other villages had decided to boycott the vote under the slogan 'No Road, No Vote'. Two days ago, the BDO of Panki had gone to the village and talked to the villagers and told them the importance of voting, but the villagers remained adamant on their decision to boycott the vote, expressing their displeasure over the non-construction of a 12 kilometer long road.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, two days before voting, Panki MLA Dr. Mehta reached Garihara and explained to the villagers. Told that the matter related to road construction is pending with the departmental secretary since 2023. Due to the work being done at a snail's pace, the tender has not been done, but as soon as the code of conduct is over, the tender process will be completed quickly and road construction will be started within two months.

The MLA said that the area of Garihara has been neglected for 75 years. Dalits, tribals and backward people live in this area, hence the previous public representatives did not pay attention. Praising the decision and awareness of the villagers, he said that they found a better way to solve their problem and remained firm till the end.

From the spot, the MLA assured the villagers from the Palamu Deputy Commissioner about the construction of basic facilities like roads, bridges and culverts. The Deputy Commissioner has talked about providing vehicles for transportation to the relocated polling station Jolhabigaha.

After talks that continued for several hours, the villagers withdrew the decision to boycott the vote. The villagers said that they had decided to boycott voting at 323 polling stations. He did not change his decision due to lack of satisfactory response during talks with BDO. From the MLA's words it seemed that the road would be built. In such a situation, he has decided not to boycott the vote.
