Mumbai, May 13 (HS). So far 8 people have died and 59 people are seriously injured in the hoarding collapse incident in Ghatkopar on Monday. All of them are being treated in Rajawadi Hospital. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a high-level investigation into this matter. So far 67 people have been successfully evacuated from the incident site, the work of evacuating people from the incident site is still going on. The fire brigade team on the spot is still working to remove the debris.
On Monday around 4 pm, due to unseasonal stormy rain accompanied by strong wind, the hoarding installed near the petrol pump located in Ghatkopar fell down. About eight people have died so far in this incident. After this incident, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the spot and announced a high-level inquiry to thoroughly investigate the incident. CM Shinde said that this incident is very unfortunate. As soon as I got information about this incident, I immediately discussed it with the officials of the Disaster Management Department of Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Municipal Corporation officials have reached here. Rescue work is also going on. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the people injured in this incident have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. CM Shinde said that the Commissioner has been instructed to conduct a structural audit of all the hoardings in Mumbai. We have directed the Commissioner to conduct a structural audit of all hoardings in Mumbai. “We have also ordered the commissioner to take action and register a case against those hoardings which are unauthorized,” he said. CM Shinde said that the government will bear the expenses of the treatment of those injured in this incident and the families of those who died in this incident will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said while talking to the media that till now 67 citizens have been evacuated in the accident of falling of hoarding in Ghatkopar area. Departments like Mumbai Police, Municipal Corporation, Disaster Management are coordinating and efforts are being made on war footing to rescue the stranded people. The injured are being treated at Rajawadi Hospital and will be given all possible assistance. He also said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident and if found guilty, a case of culpable homicide will be registered against him.
