After calling it a disaster, the Election Commission on Thursday seriously considered the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Commission has sent notices to BJP and Congress for alleged violation of the code of conduct and sought their reply.
Both the BJP and Congress parties have accused each other of creating hatred and division on the basis of religion, caste, community and language. Both the parties have been directed to file their replies by 11 am on April 29. The Election Commission has sought answers from the presidents of both the parties under Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act. Let us tell you here that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused PM Modi and BJP President JP Nadda of violating the code of conduct against Rahul Gandhi.
The Election Commission says that political parties will have to take full responsibility for the conduct of their candidates, especially star campaigners. The speeches of leaders in high positions can have even more serious consequences.
