Boat capsized in Jhelum river: A major accident took place today in Srinagar, Kashmir. Boat capsized in Jhelum river in Srinagar. There were 11 people on the boat, including 5 school children. 4 people have died in this accident and 7 people have been rescued.
This boat takes people from Ganderbal to Batwara daily. The water level of Jhelum has increased due to heavy rain in the last 48 hours. Due to which the boat overturned and this accident happened.
After the accident, local sailors immediately started rescue operations. After some time, police and SDRF team also conducted the rescue operation. Out of the 7 rescued people, 3 are undergoing treatment. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over this accident.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed deep sorrow over the boat accident in Srinagar. In the message issued, he has said that I am deeply saddened by the death of people in the accident. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and I pray to God to give them the strength to bear this immense loss. Teams of SDRF, Army and other agencies are carrying out relief and rescue operations. The administration is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families. Medical facilities are being provided to those who have lost their loved ones and those who are injured. Marine Commando (MARCOS) teams have also been alerted. I am constantly monitoring the situation and providing guidance to the team.
