Political turmoil and sharp statements in JDU amid Bihar Legislative Council elections

These days, arrows of statements and political turmoil are at their peak in the politics of Bihar. The political temperature was already high regarding the much talked about Legislative Council (MLC) elections of the state, but now another new and sharp chapter has been added to this heat. Senior Janata Dal United (JDU) leader and party candidate from Patna Graduate constituency cum sitting MLC Neeraj Kumar has been admitted to the ICU of a reputed private hospital in the capital Patna after his health suddenly deteriorated. A special team of doctors is continuously monitoring him. But as soon as the news of his hospitalization came to light, the war of words within and outside the party has intensified, especially a taunt by Mokama’s rebel MLA Anant Singh has given more fuel to this entire incident.

According to the information received, MLC Neeraj Kumar was suddenly taken to the hospital late on Monday night due to heart issue. Since voting for Legislative Council seats is to be held in the state on October 23, the deteriorating health of the candidate at such an important and critical time has increased the concern of his supporters and party workers. According to medical sources, he was already suffering from heart related problems. He is being treated under the care of doctors, and everyone in political circles is wishing him a speedy recovery. However, amid this health crisis, the rebellious attitude of his political opponents, especially from within the party, has escalated the matter.

As soon as the news of JDU MLC’s hospitalization became public, Mokama MLA Anant Singh, known for his outspoken and strong statements, made a sharp and political taunt. While talking to media persons, Anant Singh said without any hesitation that this is not a new thing, rather it is his old habit. Anant Singh sarcastically said that whenever the turn comes to send money to the booth or bear the expenses during elections, then such drama of ill health starts and he reaches the hospital. His statement has created a stir in the political circles of Bihar and the internal strife going on within JDU has once again come out on the streets.

This figure of thirty-six between Anant Singh and Neeraj Kumar is not new. For some time now, the war of words between the two leaders is becoming increasingly intense. This infighting has also come to the fore in the upcoming MLC elections, where Mokama MLA Anant Singh was seen campaigning in favor of the candidate supported by Jan Suraj instead of supporting the party’s official candidate Neeraj Kumar. Recently, during the election campaign, both sides made sharp attacks on each other. While Neeraj Kumar had taken on indiscipline and opponents from the open platform, Anant Singh had also made it clear that he does politics on his own terms and does not agree with every decision within the party.

On one hand, the party’s own MLAs and rebellious attitude are creating problems during the elections, while on the other hand, the Election Commission and the local administration also seem to be fully prepared. Recently, the police administration has also taken some strict steps regarding violation of code of conduct and matters related to law and order. In such an environment, the admission of the party’s official candidate in the ICU of the hospital and the taunting of the leader of the opposition camp on him is creating an uncomfortable situation for JDU. Political analysts believe that only the election results will decide how much impact this internal conflict and rhetoric will have on the upcoming elections. At present, this incident has become the biggest center of discussion in the entire state.
