E20 Petrol in Parliament: Is your car’s engine getting damaged by E20 petrol? Nitin Gadkari gave a big statement on mileage in Parliament!

The government has now completely clarified the situation on the ongoing debate across the country regarding the use of 20 percent ethanol blended i.e. E20 petrol. Answering questions related to E20 petrol in Parliament, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that by using this fuel, a slight reduction of 1 to 6 percent can be recorded in the mileage of vehicles. However, he completely rejected all the apprehensions that E20 petrol was damaging the engines of vehicles.

How much will be the impact on mileage?

During the discussion in Parliament, Nitin Gadkari said that the calorific value of ethanol is slightly lower than pure petrol. For this reason, there is a slight drop in the mileage of vehicles when E20 petrol is used. Depending on the vehicle model and engine tuning, this reduction in mileage can range from 1% to a maximum of 6%. He clarified that this is a normal technical process and there is absolutely no need for drivers to panic about it.

Does E20 petrol damage the engine?

For some time, there were reports on social media and automobile market about engine parts getting damaged and rusting due to E20 petrol. On this, the Union Minister clearly said that E20 fuel does not cause any harm to the vehicle engines. Indian automobile companies are now manufacturing completely E20 compliant engines and parts with suitable materials, which can easily withstand the effects of ethanol. No serious technical defect has been confirmed due to its use even in old vehicles.

Why is E20 fuel important for the country and farmers?

While addressing the Parliament, Gadkari also enumerated the major economic and environmental benefits of ethanol blending. He said that India imports most of its crude oil needs from other countries. By mixing 20 percent ethanol in petrol, there is huge saving in the country’s foreign exchange reserves and there is also a huge reduction in pollution. Apart from this, ethanol is produced mainly from sugarcane and grains, which is providing direct economic benefits to the farmers of the country.
