
The residents of the country’s capital Delhi and NCR have finally got a big relief from the severe and deadly heatwave that has been going on for the last several weeks. After the sudden and diplomatic change in the weather of Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, a strong dust storm and heavy rain drenched the entire Delhi.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ in Delhi for today, Wednesday, June 24, 2026. According to meteorologists, there is a strong possibility of strong thunderstorms and rain in many areas of Delhi during the afternoon and evening peak hours today.
91 km/hour storm in Palam, mercury dropped the most in Ayanagar
The intensity of the storm that hit Delhi on Tuesday afternoon was so terrible that the wind speed broke many previous records. According to official IMD data:

Speed of the storm: The fastest damaging winds at a speed of 91 kilometers per hour lashed Palam area of Delhi at around 2:30 pm. Apart from this, a wind speed of 85 km/hr was recorded at Pusa and 52 km/hr at the main Safdarjung weather station.

Historic drop in temperature: Due to this storm and rain, there was a huge and shocking drop in the temperature of Delhi. The maximum temperature dropped by 14.9°C in Ayanagar, due to which the afternoon temperature dropped directly from 40.6°C to 25.7°C. Along with this, the temperature was recorded at 10°C in Palam, 11.6°C in Zafarpur and around 7°C in main Safdarjung.

The Meteorological Department says that after Tuesday’s storm, the moisture in the atmosphere of Delhi has increased, due to which the conditions are completely favorable for the formation of storm even today.

Maximum and Minimum Temperature: The maximum temperature of Delhi on Wednesday is expected to be between 39°C to 41°C, which will keep the scorching heat under control. Whereas the minimum temperature can be recorded between 24°C to 26°C.

Movement of clouds: The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day. Cold and strong winds can blow from the western direction at a speed of 15 to 25 kilometers per hour.
Be careful while going out of the house in the afternoon and evening
Meteorologists have indicated that although today will not be as severe as Tuesday, there may be sudden showers with strong thunderstorms in some parts of Delhi-NCR during the afternoon and evening.

Sudden changes in weather are most likely to occur while returning home from office in the evening or during busy traffic. In such a situation, drivers are advised to avoid standing under trees and weak hoardings during strong winds and follow the guidelines issued by BMC or local administration.
