The Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (26 May 2026) has issued a warning of strong thunderstorm and heavy rain in 13 states of the country including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. During this period, destructive winds can blow at a speed of 85 kilometers per hour in some areas. In view of the changing weather patterns, the department has advised people to take special precautions, especially those traveling in hilly areas may have to face some problems.
Storm and rain warning in these 13 states
According to the latest report of the Meteorological Department (IMD), a strong U-turn of weather will be seen in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. There is a possibility of rain and dusty storm with thunderstorms in these states. During this period the wind speed can reach 80 to 85 kilometers per hour. In view of this sudden storm, meteorologists have given strict instructions to farmers and fishermen not to go out in the open and stay in safe places.
You will sweat in Delhi-Rajasthan, heat wave will continue
On one hand, there is going to be relief from rain in many states, on the other hand, the sun will remain harsh in some parts of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. According to the press release of the Meteorological Department, heatwave will continue in these areas. The maximum temperature can reach 43 to 47 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, due to which the condition of people is sure to be miserable. There will be scorching heat along with strong dusty winds in Punjab and Haryana on May 26-27, which will not only increase the day temperature but the nights will also be very hot and humid. However, it is a matter of relief for the people of Delhi that the period of storm and rain may start here after May 29.
Monsoon like knock in South India, alert of heavy rain
The weather seems quite pleasant in the states of South India. Light to moderate rain will continue over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andhra Pradesh. During this period, winds will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in the coastal areas. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on May 25 and 26. At the same time, the weather will be bad in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh also. In view of the strong waves and bad weather in the sea, IMD has advised fishermen not to enter the sea.
The severe form of weather will be visible in the North-Eastern states also
Talking about Northeast India, there is a possibility of light rain with lightning and strong winds in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be torrential rains in parts of Assam and Meghalaya on May 26 and 27, due to which there is a danger of creating waterlogging-like conditions at the local level.
