The Meteorological Department has issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for the coming three days and then ‘Orange Alert’ in view of the possibility of the situation worsening further.
Mercury will touch 46 degrees in Delhi, no hope of relief

According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature of Delhi may cross 46 degrees Celsius on May 21 and 22. Even after this, the heat will not reduce and between May 23 and 26 the mercury will remain around 44 to 45 degrees. Delhiites will have to face this scorching heat wave for the next week.
Outcry in Punjab and Haryana too, some relief in the mountains

According to the latest weather report, the mercury has crossed 46 degrees Celsius in Rohtak in Haryana and Bhatinda in Punjab. 24 to 26 May: ‘Severe heatwave’ conditions will persist in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
20 to 26 May: There is a possibility of severe heat wave in large parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
20 to 24 May: The heat of the sun will continue in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh also. Temperatures will remain extremely hot even at night in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, which will increase humidity.
Double attack of humidity: In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, the temperature as well as humidity level will be very high, due to which people will be troubled by sticky heat.

For red alert areas: People of all ages in these areas are at greatest risk of heatstroke and dehydration. Strictly avoid leaving the house between 12 noon and 4 pm without essential work.
For orange and yellow alert areas: It is very important to maintain water level in the body. Keep drinking water continuously even if you do not feel thirsty. While leaving home, consume beverages like ORS solution, lemonade, lassi, buttermilk or panah. While going out, always wear light colored cotton clothes, wear sunglasses and cover your head with a cloth or umbrella.
