News India Live, Digital Desk: A very big and sensational news is coming out from the politics of Chhattisgarh at this time. Politician Amit Jogi, son of former Chief Minister of the state, late Ajit Jogi, has suffered a major legal setback. Chhattisgarh High Court has convicted Amit Jogi in the 23-year-old high-profile Ram Avtar Jaggi murder case. Adopting a strict stance, the court has given him only three weeks to surrender. After this decision, Amit Jogi has raised questions on the justice system and has talked about taking the matter to the Supreme Court.
File reopened on Supreme Court’s instructions
Earlier, the lower court (trial court) had acquitted Amit Jogi of charges in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ram Avtar Jaggi in 2003. However, the matter did not rest and the CBI challenged this decision. In November last year, the Supreme Court had made important comments while hearing this case. The top court had said that even though the CBI has delayed filing the appeal, the charges against the accused Amit Jogi are very serious as he is accused of murdering an opposition party leader. Following these strict instructions of the Supreme Court, the proceedings were resumed in the High Court.
Trial court’s decision cancelled, big order from Chief Justice’s bench
On Thursday, a division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma heard this much-discussed case in the Chhattisgarh High Court. Considering the arguments of CBI and the seriousness of the case, the court completely rejected the earlier decision of the trial court to acquit Amit Jogi. The High Court has issued an order to Amit Jogi to surrender within three weeks, finding him guilty in this serious case of murder.
‘A grave injustice was done to me’, Amit Jogi’s pain spills out
Amit Jogi’s strong reaction has come after being convicted by the High Court. He has claimed that he was not even given a chance to express his views. Jogi expressed his pain by posting on social media and wrote, “Today the Honorable High Court accepted the CBI appeal against me in just 40 minutes – without giving me an opportunity to be heard.”
Now we will knock on the door of the Supreme Court
Amit Jogi further wrote in his post, “I am sorry that a person who was acquitted by the court, was convicted without giving even a single opportunity of being heard. This is completely unexpected.” He termed this decision as a serious injustice done to him and said that he still has full faith in the justice system. Jogi has announced that he is moving forward with complete peace, faith and patience and will appeal against this decision in the Supreme Court, from where he has full hope of getting justice.
