News India Live, Digital Desk:If you are thinking of getting a new PAN card or are going to make any changes in your old card, then this news is very important for you. The Income Tax Department of the Government of India has made major changes in the process of PAN card application from 1 April 2026. Till now you could get ‘Instant PAN’ made within minutes only through Aadhaar Card, but now this facility has been discontinued. According to the new rules, along with Aadhaar, you will now have to provide date of birth and other strong proof of identity.
Aadhar card alone is no longer enough, these extra documents are required
Till now Aadhaar card was accepted as the only document for identity, address and date of birth. But according to the new guidelines of CSC and Income Tax Department, now the applicants Voter IDAdditional documents like passport, driving license or 10th mark sheet will have to be provided. This step has been taken to increase the authenticity of PAN card and prevent errors in data.
New application form (Form 93) becomes mandatory
With the change in rules, old application forms (like Form 49A) have also been retired. Now for Indian citizens and companies ‘Form 93’ Has been introduced. If you apply on the old form, it will be rejected. Along with this, now the name printed on the PAN card will be the same as that recorded on your Aadhar card. Therefore, before applying for PAN, make sure that there is no mistake in your Aadhaar.
Separate proof will have to be given for date of birth (DOB)
The most important part of the new rules is the verification of date of birth. Now, to get a PAN card, it will be mandatory for you to submit any one of the documents like Birth Certificate, Matriculation Certificate or Affidavit issued by the Magistrate. Without these documents, your PAN card application will be considered incomplete and will not be processed.
New process of online application
You can still apply online for PAN card by visiting the website of NSDL/Protean or UTIITSL. You will have to upload these new documents digitally during the process. If you are applying offline, you will have to visit the nearest PAN Facilitation Center and submit photocopies of all supporting documents along with the new Form 93. The government aims to reduce financial fraud and make the tax system more transparent through this new system.
