Varanasi. A sensational case has come to light from the education world of religious city Kashi. BA 4th semester students at the famous Uday Pratap (UP) College campus in Varanasi on Friday morning. Surya Pratap Singh alias Surya Was shot dead. The incident took place when the student was in the corridor of the Social Science Faculty. The attacker fired four bullets at Surya’s head and chest from very close range, causing chaos on the spot. After this incident, there is tension in the entire campus and heavy police force has been deployed.

At the post-mortem house, the patience of Rishidev Singh, father of the deceased student, ran out. Seeing the dead body of his only son, he wept bitterly and flatly refused to perform the last rites. He put forward a demand to the police administration that they will not touch the dead body until the killers are encountered. After a long uproar and police’s advice, the body was taken to his residence in Shivpur, but mourning and anger remain in the family.

According to eyewitnesses, at around 11 in the morning the accused student Manjeet Chauhan Targeted Surya. After the shooting, the attacker ran towards the first floor, jumped over the boundary wall and escaped by throwing his pistol in a nearby dustbin. Injured Surya was immediately taken to BHU Trauma Centre, but the wounds were so deep that doctors declared him dead. Police later recovered the weapon used in the murder from the bushes.
Campus became a battlefield, teachers were also attacked
As soon as the news of the murder spread, the students became angry. Angry students closed the main gate of the college and vandalized the campus. During this period, many vehicles were damaged and three teachers were also attacked, one of whom suffered serious injuries. Seeing the situation worsening, a heavy force under the leadership of Police Commissioner Mohit Aggarwal took charge and safely evacuated the staff trapped in the premises.

Surya Pratap Singh, originally a resident of Saidpur, Ghazipur, was a promising and sociable student. His parents work in Atulanand School, Varanasi. According to the police, the entire incident appears to be the result of a personal dispute and war of supremacy between two students. Police have registered a case against the main accused Manjeet Chauhan and his associate Anuj Thakur.
Serious questions raised on security
How did a student reach inside the college campus with a pistol? Was there no system of checking at the gate? These questions have put the college administration in the dock. At present, the police is scanning the CCTV footage and raids are being conducted at possible locations to arrest the absconding accused.
