News India Live, Digital Desk: In view of the ongoing tension in the Middle East and the possible LPG crisis in India after the attack on the gas plant in Qatar, the Central Government has come into full action mode. The government has taken a big historic decision to save the general public from severe shortage and expensive gas. Now piped natural gas (PNG)’s connection only 24 hour Will be made available within.

Strict instructions from Petroleum Ministry

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued instructions to all City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies to increase their efficiency. The government aims to get people to reduce their dependence on LPG cylinders and shift to PNG, so that LPG stocks held as backup can be used in areas where pipelines cannot reach.

Why was this big decision taken?

Fear of LPG crisis: There may be a shortage of domestic gas cylinders due to fear of disruption in gas supply from Qatar.

24 hour deadline: Earlier it used to take weeks to get a PNG connection, but now the aim is to complete meter and pipeline fitting within 24 hours of application.

Cost Reduction: PNG is about 10-15% cheaper than LPG and there is no fear of running out of cylinder.

These cities will get priority

In the initial phase, ‘on-demand’ connection scheme is being launched in big metros like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Lucknow. Companies have been instructed to deploy additional technical teams so that verification and installation can be completed immediately after registration.

What will change for the common man?

This step of the government will not only reduce the uncertainty of supply, but will also provide relief from black marketing and delays in delivery. Experts believe that ‘direct-to-kitchen’ gas supply will prove to be a game-changer for India’s energy security in future.
