The Supreme Court has acquitted a man accused of murdering his step-daughter of all charges. Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K.V. Vishwanathan’s bench found during the hearing that there were many flaws in the theory of the prosecution. The Court clarified:

No one can be considered a murderer merely on the basis of being a ‘stepfather’.

‘Last Seen’ Theory: The court said that merely because the accused and the victim were last seen together, it is not a sufficient basis for awarding punishment.

If there is a ‘gap’ in the chain of evidence, the accused should always benefit from it.
