Many temporary camps destroyed due to fire in Ganga Sagar fair area

Kolkata, 09 January: Before the start of the world famous Ganga Sagar Fair, a sudden fire broke out in several temporary camps built along the number-two road near Kapalmuni Temple today. Within no time the huts made of hogla burst into flames and within a short time one camp after another the camps were completely burnt to ashes.

According to preliminary information, various government departments are constructing temporary camps in the fair area. In these, arrangements were to be made for the stay of government officials, Information and Culture Department personnel and journalists. There was chaos due to the sudden fire.

As soon as the information was received, many fire brigade vehicles arrived. The fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control after a lot of effort. No casualties have been reported so far in this incident. The cause of the fire has not been known yet. The fire department has started investigating the reasons for this.

The fair administration has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. A senior official handling the security of the fair, requesting anonymity, said that a committee is being formed to investigate the cause of the fire.

The process of arrival of devotees to Gangasagar fair will start on Sunday. Around 40 to 50 lakh people are likely to arrive in a week.
