Guwahati, 05 January: Earthquake tremors were felt in many states of North-East India early today. The intensity of this earthquake, which occurred at 04.17.40 am, was measured at 5.1 on the Richter scale. Panic spread among the people. The tremors were felt for a long time.
This moderate intensity earthquake affected neighboring states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram including Assam as well as India’s neighboring countries Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan and China. However, there is no news of any damage due to the earthquake.
The National Center for Seismology said the epicenter of the earthquake was 14 km away from Morigaon district of Assam at a depth of 50 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 26.37 north latitude and 92.29 east longitude.
