We often think that train travel is the cheapest and most accessible, but Railways has decided to take a dig at your pocket just before the beginning of the new year (2026). December 26, 2025 Train fares are going to increase.

Officials argue that this step was necessary to run the railways smoothly and to meet maintenance expenses. This is being called “mobilizing additional resources”.

If you have already booked tickets after 26th, you are probably saved (as per rules). But if you are going to buy tickets now, then be ready to pay as per the new rates. There is currently relief for passengers of local and passenger trains (short distance).
