The Election Commission has shown strictness on the WhatsApp message named 'Developed India' being sent by the Central Government to the common people. The Election Commission has directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to immediately stop the delivery of 'Developed India' messages on WhatsApp. The Election Commission has also issued a notice to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in this regard.
Actually, the Commission has directed to immediately stop the delivery of Vikas Bharat message on WhatsApp. For this, the Election Commission has sought an immediate report on this matter from MeitY. The Commission had received several complaints that despite the announcement of General Elections 2024 and implementation of the Model Election Code, such messages are still being sent to citizens' phones.
In response to this notice, the IT Ministry informed the Commission that though the letters were sent before the implementation of the Election Code, some of them may reach people with delay due to systemic and network limitations.
