Actually, here we are talking about PUC certificate, which is called pollution certificate in common language. If you drive without it, a challan of Rs 10,000 can be issued to you. There is a provision for this in the Motor Vehicles Act and whenever the pollution certificate expires, it is required to be made immediately.

This PUC certificate for a car is valid for one year, while for a bike it is valid for three months. You will have to get a new PUC made every three months. If you do not do this then the police can issue you a heavy challan. Its fee is around Rs 100 for a car and Rs 70 or 80 for a bike or scooter. It takes only five to 10 minutes to make the pollution certificate.
To get pollution certificate made, you will have to go to PUC center, which you will get at all petrol pumps. Here your vehicle is checked and then a pollution certificate is given. PUC is not made for the vehicle whose pollution level is high. If you have not yet got this certificate made, then get it done immediately, otherwise you will have to pay a heavy fine.
