In Maharashtra, political differences between BJP and Eknath Shinde have started deepening between Shiv Sena. Recently, both allies have come face to face to demand BJP leader Nitesh Rane to ban the examination by wearing a burqa.
Differences in BJP and Shinde faction on Burka dispute
From the BJP quota, Minister Nitesh Rane wrote a letter to Maharashtra Education Minister Dada Bhusus, demanding a ban on wearing a burqa in the 10th and 12th examinations. He argued that allowing the burqa may increase the possibility of misconduct in the examination. He suggested that if needed, identity verification can be done at examination centers through women police or teachers.
However, Shinde faction leader Raju Waghmare opposed this demand. He said, “When the burqas are allowed at the polling stations, what can be the problem in wearing it at the examination centers?” However, he also admitted that the Mahayuti government would not promote “politics of appeasement”.
Political reactions and the stance of Minorities Commission
Maharashtra Minorities Commission Chairman Pyare Khan also criticized Nitesh Rane’s statement and said that such statements can harm the image of the government. He appealed to the BJP leader to avoid such “irresponsible statements”.
In this controversy, Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi also condemned Nitesh Rane’s statement, while BJP leader Ganesh Naik is trying to strengthen his base in Thane, which may further increase the cracks between Shinde faction and BJP.
Increasing distance between power colleagues
The entire controversy has once again exposed the current differences between the BJP and the Shinde faction. Already in Thane, the BJP is trying to strengthen its grip, which is increasing the discomfort in the Shinde faction. Now the Burka controversy seems to be creating new sourness in this alliance.
