North Korean soldier escaped by dodging the trap of death: Reached South Korea after crossing millions of land mines and barbed wires, know the inside story of the world’s most dangerous border! North Korea Soldier Defects to South Korea via DMZ

It is said that when the situation becomes worse for a person in his own country, then he is ready to face even death to change his life. A similar hair-raising international case has come to light from North Korea, where a soldier of dictator Kim Jong Un’s army took an audacious decision to cross a border which is counted among the most dangerous and impenetrable borders of the world.

The shadow of death is present at every step in the Demilitarized Zone i.e. DMZ between North and South Korea. There are lakhs of land mines laid under the ground, high-voltage current running all around, barbed wire and tight security arrangements of soldiers equipped with modern weapons. Despite this, a North Korean soldier successfully crossed this ‘death trap’ and reached South Korea. This sensational incident has surprised the defense experts all over the world as to how a person can cross this dangerous path alive amidst such tight security and surveillance of intelligence cameras.

Big military exodus happened at midnight: South Korean army captured

According to the report of international media house ‘Daily Star’, this surprising incident is being reported on Tuesday night. Giving official information, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that a North Korean soldier somehow crossed the forward border of the DMZ and entered South Korean territory.

As soon as he was seen in the Thermal Observation Device (TOD) near the border, South Korean soldiers took immediate action and captured him safely. At present, security agencies and military intelligence are interrogating him very strictly at a secret place, so that it can be found out why he took such a big risk of his life and how he managed to dodge North Korea’s multi-layered security system (Border Security Grid).

What is DMZ? Where even a bird cannot kill, there is a path through millions of land mines.

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) dividing North and South Korea is a buffer zone about 250 kilometers long and about 4 kilometers wide. It is considered the most militarized and dangerous border in the world. Since the time of the Cold War, a large number of troops, tanks and artillery are deployed in this area from both the countries.

It is estimated that more than 10 lakh land mines are laid within this 4 kilometer radius. Apart from this, high concrete walls, motion sensors, surveillance cameras, automatic gun towers and security posts have been built. In such a situation, it is considered completely impossible to cross this area without a guide. This is the reason why whenever a person tries to escape through this route, he comes into the limelight at the global level.

That dreadful scene of the year 2017: When the soldier ran away amidst the hail of bullets

This is not the first time that a North Korean civilian or soldier has had the daring audacity to cross the DMZ. Earlier in the year 2017 also, a North Korean soldier from JSA (Joint Security Area) had tried to escape by running in a jeep. At that time his own fellow soldiers opened fire on him with AK-47 bullets.

That soldier was hit by more than 5 bullets, but despite being seriously injured and bleeding, he managed to crawl to the border of South Korea, where doctors later saved his life. At the same time, another unique case came to light in the year 2022, when a gymnast player who had earlier fled from North Korea to South Korea, returned to North Korea through the same dangerous DMZ.

After the road to China is closed, people are now jumping straight into the ‘well of death’

According to human rights organizations and government data of South Korea, thousands of North Korean people, fed up with starvation and dictatorship, have fled to Seoul (South Korea) in the last few decades. But now running straight across the DMZ has become 10 times more difficult than before because Kim Jong Un had recently ordered to increase the height of the walls on the border and lay new land mines.

Usually, most of the people first cross the border of China or Russia and from there reach South Korea via Thailand. But since Covid-19, China has also increased the strictness on its borders, due to which that route has been closed. In such a situation, people are now taking the last and fatal step of crossing this ‘well of death’ i.e. DMZ in the hope of changing their fate and breathing the air of freedom.
