Mumbai: Mumbai Surabaya district has more than 72 lakh eligible voters, out of which 4600 voters have completed 100 years or more. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Mumbai suburban district has seen an increase of nearly four lakh voters, an official said on Monday.
There are 72,28,403 eligible voters in Mumbai suburb, of which 38,94,1680 are males, 33,33,402 females and 801 transgender persons. 1,01,673 voters are above 85 years of age. Out of which 4632 voters have crossed the century mark. 14,113 voters are persons with disabilities (PWD). A special team will be formed to help them. The Election Commission will provide the facility of ballot paper for this category of voters and voters above 85 years of age. Collector and District Education Officer Rajendra Kshirsagar said in a press conference held in Bandra on Monday that voters of this category have been left with the option of voting on ballot paper at home or going to the polling station.
Here, wheelchair facility will be provided at all the polling stations. At the national level, the voter registration rate in the 18-19 age group is 3 percent, while it is only 0.5 percent in the suburban district of Mumbai. 7363 polling stations and 27 additional booths will be built at 1083 places in the district. In places where there are more than 1500 voters, additional polling booths will be created.
Mumbai Urban district has four Lok Sabha seats and 26 assembly seats. Voting will take place here on May 20. 44,000 employees will be present on duty on the day of voting.
So far 12290 banners and posters have been removed from various places in the suburban district. The Collector has written a letter to 4000 prominent people of the film industry requesting them to spread awareness about voting among the people.
