Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared personal aspects and experiences of his life in a podcast with Nikhil Kamat. He spoke openly about his childhood, friendship and life’s struggles. PM Modi told that after leaving home in childhood, there was a profound change in his life and relationships like friendship gradually ended.

Reason for loss of contact with childhood friends

PM Modi said that he left home at a very young age, due to which he completely lost contact with school friends. He said:
“There is no one left in my life who can call me ‘you’.”
This statement of his makes clear the emotional state of his life. He recalled that when he became the Chief Minister, his wish was to meet his school friends. In this effort, about 35 old friends were invited, but the warmth that is there in friendship was not felt in that meeting.

Modi said his identity and position created distance in their relationships.
“I was looking for a friend in him, but he was looking for a chief minister in me,” he said.

Importance of teacher: mention of Rashbihari Maniyar

The Prime Minister mentioned one of his teachers, Rash Behari Maniyar, who always addressed him as “Tu”. According to him, he was the last person who connected with him beyond formality. Maniyar ji passed away recently at the age of 94. Modi said:
“After him, there was no one left in my life to say ‘you’.”

After becoming the Chief Minister, PM Modi fulfilled his wish to honor all his teachers. He found all the teachers and honored them publicly. He believes that these teachers also have a big contribution in his life’s success.

Childhood Memories: Journey from Average Student to Missionary Thinking

Recalling his childhood days, PM Modi said that he was never an excellent student in school. But one of his teachers always encouraged him. He told that the basic mantra of his success is dedication towards “mission”.

He said:
“The criteria for success in politics should not be ambition, but mission.”
This approach inspires him from Mahatma Gandhi, who set an example from his life by staying away from aspiration to come to power.

Mahatma Gandhi: source of inspiration

Referring to Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi said that his simplicity and communication skills were the basis of his success in politics. Gandhi never wore a cap, but the “Gandhi cap” was worn all over the world. He said:
“Gandhiji was thin and lived a simple life, yet he was great because his life spoke.”

Gandhiji had a big stick in his hand, but he used to talk about non-violence. It was the strength of his life’s message that people believed him. PM Modi pointed out that Gandhi did not do politics while in power, but after his death, his mausoleum was named “Rajghat”.

importance of communication arts

Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of communication art in politics. He said that it is more important than the art of speech that you can convey your ideas to the people in an effective manner. He believes that the success of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi lay in the art of connecting their ideas with the masses.
