Lieutenant Governor administers oath to new Chairman, Vice Chairman and members of reorganized NDMC

New Delhi, 9 November (Hindustan Reporter). Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena on Saturday administered the oath of trust and allegiance to the new team of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Chairman Keshav Chandra and Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal along with other nominated members were among those who took oath in the program organized at Raj Niwas.

NDMC was reorganized under the notification issued by the Union Home Ministry on September 17 and November 5, 2024. Pursuant to this, three elected representatives, four official-members and four non-official members have been nominated to the NDMC from the constituencies of the NDMC.

According to these notifications, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena today issued notice to Bansuri Swaraj (MP-New Delhi), Virendra Singh Kadyan (MLA-Delhi Cantt), Anil Valmiki, Sarita Tomar and Dinesh Pratap Singh and Niharika Rai, Finance Secretary of Delhi Government. Took oath as a member of NDMC. Of these, Kuljeet Chahal has been named as Vice Chairman of NDMC as per the notification of the Home Ministry.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena, Members of Parliament Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Yogendra Chandolia and Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra and other senior officials of the Municipal Council and Delhi Government were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

It is noteworthy that in exercise of the power conferred by the appropriate provisions of the NDMC Act, 1994, the Union Home Ministry issues a notification for nomination of members of the NDMC every five years. As per the NDMC Act, every new member is required to take an oath of affirmation in the prescribed format before assuming his office.

The New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994 was amended in January, 2012. The New Delhi Municipal Council is governed by a 13-member council headed by a Chairman as per the NDMC (Amendment) Act, 2011. Of the other 12 members, two are MLAs from New Delhi representing constituencies comprising wholly or partly the New Delhi region and one Member of Parliament representing constituencies comprising wholly or partly the New Delhi region. or partly comprising the New Delhi area, has 5 official members and 4 non-official members nominated by the Central Government.
