6 Congress councilors join Aam Aadmi Party

There has been a big change in the politics of Bhogpur. The 6 Congress -backed councilors recently elected from the city council Bhogpur left the party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). It is worth noting that in the city council elections held on 21 December 2024, the candidates of the development committee of the Congress faction won a majority. Although these elections were held without the signs of political parties, the victory of Congress -backed candidates raised the party’s political stature.

The elections were six member candidates of the Arora family, out of which five won. Raj Kumar Raja from Ward No. 2, Niti Arora from Ward No. 3, Munish Arora from Ward No. 8, Rekha Arora from Ward No. 10 and Jeet Rani from ward number 13 won. Apart from this, Satnam Singh was also elected from ward number 11.

At the same time, Urmila Bhatti, wife of Jeet Lal Bhatti, Aam Aadmi Party’s Adampur assembly constituency, lost in these elections. Now, Raj Kumar Raja, who is considered to be close to Congress’s strongman and MLA Sukhwinder Kotli, and his group joining the Aam Aadmi Party has weakened the Congress’s grip in Bhogpur.

Reacting to the incident, MLA Sukhwinder Kotli said that the councilors who have left the party will have the answer to the reasons for this decision.
