The monsoon rains, who are dancing Rudra in Himachal Pradesh, have created big troubles in the entire state. Roads, power system and water supply schemes have been badly damaged, and the death toll is also increasing. According to a report by Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA), till Saturday morning 374 roads, 524 power transformers and 145 water supply schemes were stalled across the state.

Many roads including two national highways, NH-305 and NH-05 have been completely blocked due to landslides and floods. Mandi, Kullu and Kinnaur districts have been badly affected. The renovation work of the roads is being interrupted due to continuous rains and fresh landslides. There are 203 roads closed in Mandi district and 458 transformers are not working. In Kullu district, 79 roads, including a large landslide near Z (Khanag) on NH-305, are blocked. Water supply projects in Chamba (24), Kangra (41) and Mandi (44) districts have also been badly damaged.
The number of dead increased to 257
HPSDMA said that 257 people have lost their lives since the onset of monsoon on 20 June. Out of these, 133 people died in incidents related to landslides, floods, houses collapsing and thunderstorms. 124 other people died in road accidents, most of which were due to slippery roads and low visibility. 28 people died in Kangra, 26 in Mandi, 11 in Kullu and 10 in Chamba. Death took place in Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Lahaul-Spiti, Hamirpur and Una.

The number of road accidents has also increased significantly due to the poor condition of roads due to rain. HPSDMA officials said 12 people died in Kangra, 12 in Kinnaur, 21 in Mandi, 15 in Shimla and 20 in Chamba.
Huge loss to property:
The total property loss due to monsoon has exceeded Rs 2,14,403 lakhs. Public infrastructure such as roads, power lines and water supply systems has suffered heavy damage. Thousands of houses are completely or partially damaged. In addition, crops worth Rs 1,39,46 lakh have been destroyed.
Heavy rains will continue
In view of the possibility of continuing heavy rains in the coming days, the authority has advised the residents and passengers to avoid unnecessary travel and to be cautious especially in hilly areas. The public has been urged to pay attention to the meteorological warnings and inform the local authorities about any emergency.
