News India Live, Digital Desk: Monsoon Havoc in Himachal: Himachal Pradesh, the queen of the mountains, is suffering badly with the havoc of monsoon this time. The heavy rains, landslides and cloudburst for the last few days have caused heavy havoc in the state. According to the information received so far, 21 people have died in this natural disaster, while 34 people are still missing. The state has suffered a huge loss of more than Rs 400 crore.
The most heartbreaking incident took place in the Samarhil area of the capital Shimla, where an ancient Shiva temple collapsed due to landslides. Many devotees lost their lives in this painful accident. A slaughterhouse and several houses collapsed in Krishnanagar area of Shimla, in which two people were reported to have died. Districts like Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, Sirmaur and Solan have also been badly affected by floods and landslides.
Debris and trees on the streets around the streetsAbout 245 roads have been closed due to the rane, causing the traffic to come to a complete standstill. Electricity and water supply has also been disrupted in many places. River-drains are in spate, causing bridges to flow and many villages have been cut.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has expressed deep grief over this disaster and said that the state government is engaged in relief and rescue operations from full promptness. SDRF, NDRF, army and police teams are searching for missing people on a war footing and bringing the trapped people to safe places. The Meteorological Department has also released ‘Orange Alert’ for the next few days, which has increased the concerns of the people.
This disaster is reminiscent of previous year’s monsoon, whenever the state suffered a huge loss. The state government and local administration are appealing to the people to be vigilant and to stay in safe places.
