News India Live, Digital Desk: Government’s New Labor Law: The Gujarat government has taken a big and important decision for industry and workers! Work hours have been extended in factories in the state, and the most important thing is that now women will also be able to work in the night shifts. All this happened under a major change in the ‘Factory Act, 1948’. The government says that this will not only give industries a chance to grow, but will also create more jobs.
-
Work hours increased:
Till now, factories were usually 8 hours of work daily, but after this new rule, now work can be done for 12 hours. That is, if needed, the company can work with you for 12 hours daily. -
Overtime limit increased:
The overtime limit in the first one quarter (three months) was 75 hours, it has now been increased to 115 hours. This means that workers will be able to earn more by doing more work. -
Women will also do night shift:
This is the biggest change! Now women employees have also been allowed to work in the shift between 7 am and 6 am. This is a step that will open new doors of employment for women.
Special conditions for women (security and convenience first):
The government has allowed women to work in night shifts, but have also placed some strict conditions with it, so that their safety and convenience can be ensured:
-
Consent is necessary: The woman will have to give her written consent to work at night. There will be no force.
-
Complete security: Companies have to take full care of the safety of women employees.
-
Transport facility: Women working in the night shift will have to provide a safe vehicle to come and go from home to the factory.
-
Food and drink arrangements: There should also be good food arrangements for them and a place to relax (washroom, rest room).
-
No discrimination: The most important thing is that women working in night shift will not have any discrimination in terms of salary or promotion. They will also get the same opportunity and salary that the day shifts get.
Government’s purpose:
The government says that these changes have been made to fulfill the long -standing demands of the industry and to promote ‘Ease of Doing Business’ (ease of doing business). This will bring new investment in Gujarat, more production and millions of people will get employment.
This has been done under the ‘Factory (Gujarat Amendment) Bill, 2020’, which has also been approved by the President after passing the assembly. Hopefully, this step will make Gujarat industrially stronger and will also open more earning opportunities for workers.
