News India Live, Digital Desk: This saying “As you sow, so shall you reap” fits perfectly with the principles of Garuda Purana. In Sanatan Dharma, it is believed that the soul is immortal, but the body it receives is a raw log of its deeds in its previous births. Lord Vishnu, in his sermons given to his vehicle Garuda, has explained in detail which of man’s actions bring him back to human form and due to which mistakes he has to become an animal, bird or insect.

Next Birth and Karma Connection (The Law of Karma)

According to Garuda Purana, whatever ‘vritti’ or thinking a person has at the time of death, he gets the same birth.

Charity and devotion: Those who remain engrossed in charity, charity, helping others and devotion to God throughout their life, get birth as a human being in a good family again in the next birth.

Effect of last will: Whatever object or creature a person remembers at the time of death, its effect is visible in rebirth.

Who gets which birth? (Reincarnation According to Deeds)

In Garuda Purana, the species have been classified on the basis of karma as follows:

Deeds Next Birth
misogynist A body suffering from terrible diseases or an impotent vagina in the next birth.
insulter of guru It is believed that such a person has to become a Brahmarakshasa or a ghost in a waterless forest.
fraudster and thief According to Garuda Purana, a person who usurps others’ wealth becomes a rat or a mongoose in the next life.
violent and murderous One who kills innocent creatures takes birth in the house of a butcher or as a wild predatory animal (like a tiger).

What is mandatory to attain human life?

Garuda Purana says that after wandering in 84 lakh births, one gets a human body with great difficulty. To keep it safe:

The path of truth: Always speaking the truth and earning a living honestly.

Following religion: To fulfill one’s responsibilities (Pitru Dharma, Putra Dharma, Raj Dharma) with devotion.

Forgiveness: Abandon anger and adopt forgiveness.

Can the results of karma be changed?

Spiritual gurus believe that the effects of past bad deeds can be reduced through ‘atonement’. If a man realizes his mistake while he is alive and turns towards good deeds, his condition can improve. Garuda Purana is a book not meant to scare us, but to inspire us to walk on the right path.
