News India Live, Digital Desk: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has opened a box of happiness for the teachers of the Higher Education Department who strengthen the educational structure of the state. Fulfilling another of his promises, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has gifted ‘cashless medical facility’ to about 1.37 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff of universities and degree colleges of the state. An official order in this regard has been issued by the Higher Education Department on Thursday, April 2, 2026, due to which now teachers will not have to shell out their pockets for treatment.
Free treatment will be available in government and private hospitals
Under this new scheme, beneficiary teachers and their dependent family members will be able to get free treatment not only in government hospitals but also in empaneled private hospitals. This facility has been started on the lines of Ayushman Bharat scheme, in which cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year will be available. Along with regular teachers, teachers of non-government aided and self-financed colleges will also get the benefit of this scheme.
The scheme will be operated through SACHIS
This entire process of cashless treatment will be monitored by the ‘State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services’ (SACHIS). The government has clarified that the treatment rates will be as per the standards set by the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Arogya Yojana and the National Health Authority (NHA). To run the scheme smoothly, data of eligible teachers and their families will be made available to Sachij by June 30 every year. With this, teachers will not have to face any kind of financial hindrance at the time of hospitalization.
The burden on the treasury will be more than Rs 50 crore
Yogi government has made a huge budget provision for this welfare scheme. According to Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, the government will bear an annual premium of about Rs 2,479.70 per teacher and employee. Overall, this scheme will cost the state government more than Rs 50 crore annually. This step will not only boost the morale of teachers, but will also prove helpful in developing a better work culture in the higher education sector of Uttar Pradesh.
