News India Live, Digital Desk: In the year 2020, the bloody clash in Galvan Valley which had frozen the relations between India and China, now seems to be melting slowly. If reports are to be believed coming out of diplomatic corridors, Chinese President Xi Jinping may come to Delhi to attend the BRICS summit to be hosted by India this year. If this happens, this will be his first visit to India after a long gap of four years and border tension.

Efforts to bring relations back on track under the guise of BRICS Experts believe that starting direct talks is a bit complicated politically for both the countries, but an international platform like ‘BRICS’ is acting as a shield in this. The recent meetings between top officials of the two countries have prepared the ground for this visit. China has not only wholeheartedly supported India’s BRICS chairmanship, but has also joined hands with India on global issues such as the Middle East.

Chinese envoy’s visit to Delhi and signs of leniency Recently, China’s special envoy Zhai Jun was in New Delhi. He met Neena Malhotra, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The tone that emerged after this meeting was positive. Zhai Jun clearly said that China respects India’s role. At the same time, it was also indicated from India’s side that we are ready to work together with BRICS countries for regional peace and stability.

How did the ice of bitterness melt? This diplomatic shift did not happen overnight. Behind this are the big events of the last few months:

LAC Patrolling Agreement: The agreement reached in October 2024 regarding patrolling on the Line of Actual Control first reduced tension.

Modi-Jinping meeting in Russia: The two leaders had formal talks during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, which broke the ice in relations.

PM Modi’s invitation: In 2025, when PM Modi went to China for the SCO meeting, he had invited Jinping to visit India.

Why is India important for China? Amidst China’s slowing economy and global trade challenges, it desperately needs a huge market like India. On the other hand, India also wants peace on its borders so that it can further accelerate the pace of its economic development. In such a situation, this possible visit of Xi Jinping can prove to be a game-changer not only for bilateral relations but also for the politics of South Asia.
