Will India get a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council with Britain’s support?:

News India Live, Digital Desk: Recently, Britain’s Labor Party leader Keir Starmer came to India and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many important issues were discussed in this meeting, but the most important discussion was whether Britain will help India in making India a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)? India has been demanding a permanent seat in the UNSC for a long time, and if it gets the full support of Britain, it can prove to be a big step.

Why does India want a permanent seat in UNSC?

The United Nations Security Council is one of the most powerful institutions in the world. It has five permanent members – America, Russia, China, France and Britain – who have ‘veto’ power. India argues that it is the world’s largest democracy, has a large economy, and plays an active role in global peacekeeping operations. In such a situation, it is very important for its views to be heard on global issues and for it to be recognized as a permanent member. Considering India’s population and growing influence at the international level, this demand seems absolutely justified.

Starmer’s meeting and Britain’s stance

Keir Starmer discussed global challenges during his meeting with PM Modi and emphasized that India’s role should increase further on the international stage. Britain has historically been advocating India becoming a permanent member, but now if the Labor Party forms a government, their support could be more decisive. Starmer described India as an “incredibly important” country and said he wanted India to take its rightful place on the global stage. This statement is a positive sign for India.

However, bringing change in the United Nations Security Council is not easy. It requires the consent of all existing permanent members, and some countries like China have been opposing India’s permanent membership. But, if we get strong support from a big country like Britain, then India’s claim will become stronger. India feels that for the sake of global peace and security, the time has come for the UNSC to be expanded and more countries should be included in it, so that it can accurately reflect the changing picture of the world.

It remains to be seen how helpful Britain’s support proves to be for India in the times to come and whether India’s dream of becoming a permanent member of the UNSC can turn into reality.
