He had made a series of blockbuster films with stars like Govinda, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, but one question always remained in the mind of the fans, why did he never make any film with ‘King Khan’ i.e. Shahrukh Khan? After years, now David Dhawan himself has revealed this secret and told the real reason for not working with Shahrukh.
‘I was always busy, did not get time to go to Shahrukh’
In a recent interview, David Dhawan spoke openly on this issue. He told that it was not that he did not want to work with Shahrukh, but he never had any free time. David said, “To be honest, I was so busy working with Govinda, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt at that time that I never got any time. I always had films lined up and I was very comfortable with my team.”
Had a meeting with Shahrukh, but things did not work out
David Dhawan recalled that once there was a discussion with Shahrukh Khan about the film. David said, “Shah Rukh is a wonderful person and a very professional actor. We had met and talked about a project, but in those days, he was busy with his romantic image and different types of films, and I was busy with my typical comedy films. Our dates and projects never matched.”
Govinda and Salman’s ‘jodi’ made headlines
The duo of David Dhawan and Govinda gave about 17 films like ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Raja Babu’ and ‘Hero No. 1’. Her films ‘Judwaa’ and ‘Biwi No. 1’ with Salman Khan created a stir at the box office. David admitted that when one of your pairs becomes a superhit, you want to carry on with the same. He said, “I had created a special rhythm with Sanjay, Salman and Govinda, which was difficult to leave.”

When David Dhawan was asked if there was any possibility of working with Shahrukh Khan in the future, he gave a positive indication. Although David is currently busy with projects with his sons Varun Dhawan and Rohit Dhawan, a blockbuster comedy film with Shah Rukh is still a dream of millions of fans.
