News India Live, Digital Desk: Today, the birth anniversary of Swaminarayan Jayanti is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. On this auspicious occasion, a historical chapter has been added to the famous Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple located in the country’s capital Delhi. A 108 feet tall grand statue of ‘Neelkanth Varni’, the teenage form of Lord Swaminarayan, has been consecrated in the temple premises. This huge ‘Tapomurti’ made of Pachadhatu is not only an unmatched example of engineering, but it has also become a new center of faith for crores of devotees. This birth anniversary falling with Ram Navami on 27 March 2026 has become even more special this time due to this new attraction of Akshardham.

Neelkanth Varni: Left home at the age of 11 and traveled 12,000 km

Lord Swaminarayan was born in Chhapia, Uttar Pradesh, but at the young age of just 11, he left his home and traveled across India for seven years under the name of ‘Neelkanth Varni’. He traveled about 12,000 kilometers barefoot from the snowy peaks of the Himalayas to the shores of Kanyakumari. This statue installed in Akshardham shows his ascetic form, in which he is doing intense meditation while standing on one leg. This format inspires determination and self-discipline for the youth.

Why is ‘Tapomurti’ of Akshardham so special?

This 108 feet statue touching the sky of Delhi is considered to be the world’s tallest ‘Tapomurti’. About 50 skilled artisans and saints worked day and night for a year to make it. In the statue, Neelkanth Varni is shown in yoga posture in the difficult conditions of ‘Muktinath’ (Nepal). Passengers passing through Akshardham flyover will now be able to see this majestic form of God from a distance. According to the temple administration, the purpose of installation of this idol is to connect the coming generations with the path of sacrifice and service.

Amazing coincidence of Swaminarayan Jayanti and Ram Navami

It is a happy coincidence that both Lord Ram and Lord Swaminarayan appeared on the day of Chaitra Shukla Navami. Today the followers of Swaminarayan sect are worshiping their deity by keeping a waterless fast and performing special aarti. Saints and thousands of devotees from all over the world participated in this grand consecration ceremony held in Akshardham. The festival concluded with Vedic chanting and ‘Vishwa Shanti Mahayagya’, which enthralled the entire Delhi.
