In this grand temple, Lord Vishnu resides in a very unique and mysterious form, which is called ‘Padmanabha’ form. Amazing Padmanabh form of Lord Vishnu
The huge statue of Lord Vishnu in the temple is seated in the posture of ‘Anant Shiyanam’. This means that God is absorbed in Yoganidra lying on a huge five -fun man. He is called ‘Padmanabha’ because he has a lotus (Padma) from his navel (Nab), and on this lotus, the creator of the universe is seated.
This form is not just an idol, but is a symbol of the operation of the entire universe and its creation. Lord Vishnu is sleeping in peace, but with his power, Brahma is creating a new world. This tells us how creation is formed, walks and then merges, and it all happens in the illusion of God. His calm and stable form shows that no matter how big the powers are around, the supreme power is always calm and balanced.
Legend of Padmanabha Swamy Temple
There are many stories about the establishment of this temple, one of which is associated with Maharishi Diwakar Muni. It is believed that in a very old time, there were a great sage named Diwakar Muni. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu and used to chant him continuously. Pleased with his devotion, one day Lord Vishnu appeared to him as a small mischievous child. The monk became fascinated by the beauty and fickleness of the child.
But the child was very devil. He started obstructing the austerity of the sage, put his Shaligram (the worship stone) in his mouth. Seeing this, the sage got angry and pushed the child. The child came into his true form when he was shocked. He turned from a small child to a huge Lord Vishnu, who lay in the posture of infinite sleeping on the Ati Nag.
Seeing this, Diwakar Muni was very sad and realized his mistake. God told the sage that now he will reside in this place in this form. God instructed the sage that his entire huge statue could not be seen at one place, rather he would have to look separately from three doors-the first door from the door and head, the second door to the navel and the third door leg. In this way, Lord Vishnu was established here and this grand Padmanabha Swamy Temple was built here.
Over time, Maharaja Martand Verma of Travancore got a huge construction of this temple in the 18th century, which we see today.
Mysterious basement of the temple (Vault b)
This temple is also known all over the world for 7 secret cellars hidden inside it. In 2011, when 6 of these basements were opened on the order of the Supreme Court, it found the world’s most incredible treasure – gold sculptures, diamonds and jewels, which were priced at several lakh crores.
But the seventh and most mysterious cellar, called ‘Walt B’, has not been opened till date. There are shapes of two big snakes at its door. It is said that this door cannot be opened with any force or technology. According to beliefs, only a Siddha Yogi can open it by chanting the ancient ‘Garuda Mantras’ properly, and if an attempt is made to open it forcibly, it can also cause a huge inauspicious or holocaust. Even today, this door and the secret behind it remain a matter of curiosity and fear for the people.
This temple is not just of devotion, but is a living example of esoteric mysteries, traditions and grand art of Sanatan Dharma.
