Amidst tremendous demonstrations and public anger, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign from his post. After this development, he stayed away from the headlines, under the supervision of the army and now he has found a new hideout.
How did the whole incident start?
All this started when the Oli government decided to ban social media. This decision became very angry with the youth, especially the ‘Jane-Z’ class. On seeing this, this anger turned into a big movement against corruption. The protests became so violent that the situation in the capital Kathmandu became uncontrollable. From government buildings to private houses of leaders were attacked. The protesters also set the residence of former PM Oli in Bhaktapur’s residence.
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, KP Sharma Oli had to leave the Prime Minister’s residence. He was taken to a safe place by army helicopter. According to the information, he was kept in the army barrack in the Shivpuri forest area north of Kathmandu for 9 days, where he was under tight security.
Army security to a new address
After staying in the army cantonment for about nine days, KP Sharma Oli has now started living in a private house.[1] Although not much information has been shared about his new place due to security reasons, media reports show that they are living in a rented house in Gundu area of Bhaktapur district, about 15 km east of Kathmandu. The move came when an interim government has been formed in the country, whose command has been handed over to former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, along with Oli, many other senior politicians, including former Prime Minister Prachanda and Sher Bahadur Deuba, had to spend time in the security of the army.
After the resignation, some statements of Oli were also in the discussion, in which he blamed India behind his going to power and reiterated his old stance on some regional disputes. At present his party CPN-UML is organizing a program on 19 September on the occasion of Constitution Day, but Oli’s presence is not yet fixed due to security reasons.
