News India Live, Digital Desk: Bihar assembly elections have always been very interesting and closely fought. Here, on many seats, victory or defeat is decided by just a few hundred or thousand votes. In such a situation, if a candidate defeats his opponent by a huge margin of more than 50,000 votes, then it becomes a big news.
Today we are reminding you about two such big victories of the 2020 assembly elections, where two candidates of the Grand Alliance registered a historic victory defeating their opponents. One of these faces is a big name of the Left Party, while the other is the wife of a powerful leader, who was contesting elections for the first time.
1. Mehboob Alam (CPI-ML) – Balrampur seat
Mehboob Alam, a big face of leftist politics and a strong hold in his constituency, had made the record of the biggest victory in 2020. CPI(ML)’s Mehboob Alam, contesting from Balrampur assembly seat of Katihar district, defeated Varun Kumar Jha of Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). 53,597 Was defeated by a huge margin of votes.
This victory of Mehboob Alam was special in many ways. He not only defeated the NDA candidate, but also showed how deep his and his party’s roots are even today in the Seemanchal area. This was the biggest victory of any candidate in that election.
2. Kiran Devi (RJD) – Sandesh seat
The second biggest and surprising victory was tied to RJD’s Kiran Devi. Kiran Devi is the wife of former Sandesh MLA from Bhojpur and Bahubali leader Arun Kumar Yadav. At the time of 2020 elections, Arun Yadav was in jail in a case and could not contest the elections. In such a situation, RJD fielded his wife Kiran Devi.
Despite the absence of her husband and the pressure of contesting elections for the first time, Kiran Devi won in a landslide victory. He defeated JDU candidate Vijendra Yadav. 50,607 Defeated by a huge margin of votes. This victory proved that Arun Yadav’s influence in Sandesh assembly constituency has not diminished and the public has expressed full confidence in his wife.
Both these victories were a big achievement for the Grand Alliance in that election, where on one side the flag of the Left was hoisted, while on the other side a woman surprised everyone by winning a big victory in difficult circumstances.
