Importance of Sharad Purnima and grace of Mother Lakshmi:

According to religious beliefs, on the night of Sharad Purnima, Mother Lakshmi roams on the earth and devotees who do awakening on this night or worship, show special grace on them, which brings wealth and splendor in the house. It is believed that Maa Lakshmi descended from the churning of the sea on this day. It is also believed that on this night Lord Krishna created Maharas with the gopis. The Moon is full of all its 16 arts this night, which provides health, force, knowledge and mental peace.

How to worship and get benefits?

  1. Make kheer and keep it in the moonlight: Creating rice pudding on this day is considered to be the most important. This kheer is placed under the open sky in the light of the moon overnight, so that drops of nectar are absorbed in it. The next day, by receiving this kheer as a prasad, health is good, relieves diseases and the body remains healthy. It is especially considered very beneficial for respiratory diseases and eyesight.
  2. Worship of Mother Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu: Take a bath and clean the house. Install the idol or picture of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu at a post. By lighting incense-lamps, offer them flowers, akshat, roli, sandalwood and sweets. It is very auspicious to offer lotus flowers and white clothes to Maa Lakshmi.
  3. Night awakening: It is believed that the blessings of Maa Lakshmi are raised on those who wake up on this night. Therefore, bhajan-kirtans and religious events are held in many places, devotees are absorbed in devotion by awake all night.
  4. Arghya to Chandra Dev: Argue the moon at night and meditate on them. This keeps the mind calm and removes lunar defects.
