News India Live, Digital Desk: The relationship between Guru and disciple is considered one of the most sacred relationships in the world. Guru not only imparts knowledge to his disciple but also teaches him the art of living life. But have you ever heard a story where a guru sacrificed his own life to save the life of his disciple? This is the story of the demons’ guru Shukracharya and his disciple Kach, which is an example of the Guru-disciple tradition.
Beginning of the story: Dev-Demon conflict
According to mythology, there was a war going on between the gods and demons for centuries. The demons had the upper hand in this war because their guru Shukracharya had a miraculous knowledge which the gods did not have – dead sanjeevani vidyaThis was the knowledge by which even a dead person could be brought back to life,
Whenever any demon was killed in the war, Guru Shukracharya would instantly bring him back to life with his Sanjivani Vidya, whereas the slain gods would die forever. Because of this the gods gradually started becoming weak.
secret plan of the gods
To overcome this crisis the gods made a plan. He was the son of Devguru Brihaspati. kach It was decided to send him on a secret mission to Shukracharya’s ashram. Kach’s mission was to serve Shukracharya by becoming his disciple, win his heart and somehow learn the secret of Sanjeevani Vidya from him.
Kacha reached Shukracharya’s ashram and became his disciple. With his service, humility and dedication he soon won the heart of Guru Shukracharya. Meanwhile, Shukracharya’s daughter Devayanibecame fascinated by Kacha’s qualities and started loving him in her heart.
Conspiracy of demons and repeated death of Kacha
Soon the demons come to know that Kacha is no ordinary disciple, but a spy sent by the gods who has come to steal their greatest power i.e. Sanjeevani Vidya. He decided to get Kach out of the way.
The demons tried to kill Kacha several times. Once they killed Kacha, cut his body into pieces and fed them to the wolves. When Devayani pleaded with her father to bring back Kacha, Shukracharya brought him back to life with his wisdom. The second time the demons killed Kacha and burnt his body and mixed the ashes in the ocean. But due to Devyani’s tears, Shukracharya brought him back to life.
When Guru drank disciple’s ashes mixed with liquor
After failing twice, the Asuras hatched a dreadful plan such that even Shukracharya could not save his disciple. He killed Kacha again, burnt his body to ashes and mixed the ashes with madira (liquor) and deceitfully made Guru Shukracharya drink it.
When Kach did not return to the ashram, Devyani again approached her father. Shukracharya saw with his divine vision and the ground slipped beneath his feet. He said to Devayani, “Daughter, this time I cannot bring back your Kacha, because he is in my udder (stomach). If I bring him back to life, my body will burst and my death is certain.”
Guru’s final sacrifice and disciple’s Guru-Dakshina
Hearing this, Devayani started crying uncontrollably. She did not want to lose either her father or her love. On one side was the love of the daughter and on the other side was the life of the disciple. In this religious crisis, Guru Shukracharya took a decision which created history.
He said to the Kacha present in his stomach, “Vatsa Kacha, your Guru’s devotion has been successful. I give you the knowledge of Sanjeevani Vidya right here in my stomach. I will revive you with my Vidya, which will cause my death. But after my death, you bring me back to life using Sanjeevani Vidya. This will be your Guru-Dakshina.”
Shukracharya used the mantra. His stomach was torn and feces came out, due to which the Guru died. But as per the promise, Kacha immediately used Sanjivani Vidya and brought his Guru Shukracharya back to life.
Thus, a Guru gave his life for the disciple and the disciple gave his life to his Guru in the form of Guru-Dakshina. After this incident, Guru Shukracharya was so hurt that on the same day he made a rule that from today onwards no Brahmin will consume liquor, because liquor destroys conscience.
