What is ‘defaulter university’ and why is it a matter of concern?

Why Madhya Pradesh at the forefront?

In the list released by the UGC, there are 10 such universities in Madhya Pradesh which have been declared defaulters. The UGC had several times reminded these universities to submit necessary information through email and online meetings and make it public on their website, but many did not follow it.

According to UGC Secretary Manish Joshi, the institutions were instructed to upload complete information with a link on their official website so that the students and the general public could easily reach it. He has been declared a defaulter only after not doing so. The UGC has asked all concerned universities to take necessary corrective steps as soon as possible and also warned that further action can be taken if not done.
