News India Live, Digital Desk: There was a stir in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night when the police took swift action and carried out encounters at two different places within just one and a half hours. In this direct firing between the police and animal smugglers, two vicious smugglers were injured by bullets, who were arrested by the police. During this action, some of his comrades managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness, their search is on.
This entire action was taken under ‘Operation Patal’ being run by Bhadohi Police, the objective of which is to completely eliminate organized crime from the district.
First encounter: In Unj police station area
The first encounter took place late Monday night near Pokhara Canal Pulia on National Highway 19 (NH-19) of Unj police station area. The police had received concrete information from the informer that some smugglers were cruelly loading cattle into a DCM vehicle and taking them for smuggling.
On this information, the crime branch, surveillance team and police of Unj police station jointly cordoned off the area. When the police signaled to stop the DCM vehicle, the miscreants sitting inside started firing at the police team with the intention of killing them. The police also retaliated in self-defense. In this firing, a smuggler was shot in the leg and he got injured and fell there.
The injured criminal has been identified as vicious cattle smuggler Anees, resident of Kunda in Pratapgarh district. Police have recovered a pistol, cartridges and DCM vehicle from him, in which 17 cattle were brutally loaded.
Second encounter: After 90 minutes in Gyanpur
Not much time had passed since this encounter that after about one and a half hour, another police encounter took place near Balhipur village of Gyanpur Kotwali area. Here too, there was a face-to-face firing between cow smugglers and the police, in which another smuggler named Nafees, a resident of Pratapgarh, got injured by a bullet in his leg.
Police also arrested Nafees. An illegal weapon and a truck, in which 32 cows were loaded, have also been recovered from his possession. According to the police, Nafees is a member of a big gang which used to carry out incidents of animal smuggling in this area.
Bhadohi Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan called it a major success under ‘Operation Patal’. He said that any kind of organized crime and animal smuggling will not be tolerated in the district and strict police action against such criminals will continue in future also. Both the injured smugglers have been admitted to the hospital for treatment and police teams are conducting raids in search of their absconding accomplices.
