Jaya Ekadashi fast story: When Malyvan and Pushpavati became vampires due to Indra’s curse
Lord Shri Krishna had narrated this story to Arjun while explaining the importance of this fast:
Once in heaven, in the kingdom of Devraj Indra, a festival was going on in the Nandan forest. There the daughter of Gandharva king Pushpabanti Pushpavati and Gandharva valuable Were dancing and singing. During the dance, both of them fell in love with each other and lost their senses. Due to his lust, the rhythm and tempo of his singing deteriorated, due to which Indra considered it an insult.
Indra’s curse and vampire vagina:
Enraged, Indra cursed them that they would fall from heaven and become vampires in the mortal world. Due to the influence of the curse, both of them started living as vampires in the inaccessible forests of the Himalayas. There he neither got sleep nor peace. They were troubled by hunger, thirst and cold.
Ekadashi fast happened spontaneously:
By divine coincidence, Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Magh month came. That day, due to extreme pain and sorrow, Malyavan and Pushpavati did not take any food. Giving up only fruits and water, he kept remembering God sitting under the Peepal tree throughout the day. Even at night he could not sleep due to cold and remained awake.
Salvation and return to heaven:
Unknowingly, he completed the difficult fast and night vigil of ‘Jaya Ekadashi’. Due to the effect of this fast, the next day on Dwadashi, by the grace of Lord Vishnu, he was freed from his vampire form and he again came back in his beautiful Gandharva form. When they reached back to heaven, even Indra was astonished. Malyavan told that all this has happened by the grace of Lord Vasudev and the glory of Jaya Ekadashi. Indra was pleased and said that those who are devotees of Lord Vishnu are also worshipable by me.
Pay special attention to these rules today
It is considered mandatory to follow some rules on the day of Jaya Ekadashi:
Sacrifice of rice: Eating rice is completely prohibited on the day of Ekadashi. It is believed that a person who eats rice on this day attains the form of a reptile in the next life.
Do not cut hair and nails: Washing hair, cutting nails or shaving is considered prohibited on this day.
Satvikta: Follow celibacy today and do not criticize or speak evil of anyone.
Worship of Lord Vishnu: Since today is also Thursday, Lord Vishnu is offered yellow flowers, yellow sandalwood and banana indulgence Must apply.
