A new controversy has arisen in the political and diplomatic circles of the country regarding the secret talks going on behind the scenes between India and Pakistan i.e. ‘Track 2 Diplomacy’. Now senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader and eminent thinker Ram Madhav has broken his silence on the claims and controversies happening on this sensitive issue, from social media to TV debates. Ram Madhav has termed this entire incident as a ‘meaningless controversy’ and has put before the country the ground truth and real reality behind it. After his statement, many ongoing speculations regarding this diplomatic stir have come to an end.
What is Track 2 Diplomacy and why is there so much controversy over it?
In fact, for the last few days, it was being claimed in media reports that former diplomats, military officers and intellectuals of India and Pakistan are sitting in a third country and holding secret talks to improve the relations between the two countries. As soon as this news came out, the opposition and many analysts started raising questions on the policies of the government that on one side there is tension on the border, on the other side what kind of talks are taking place? Clarifying the situation on this, Ram Madhav said that Track 2 diplomacy is nothing new. This is a normal process at the non-governmental level, in which experts from both countries hold academic and strategic discussions, and is not directly related to the official policy of the government.
Ram Madhav’s big statement, said- facts were presented in a distorted manner
Ram Madhav said in clear words that through this entire exercise, a deliberate attempt was made to create such an atmosphere as if the Indian government is retreating from its old policy. He clarified that India’s stand is still completely clear and firm that “terrorism and talks cannot go together.” According to Ram Madhav, this academic seminar or informal meeting was made a big issue by some elements, which is completely baseless. The purpose of such dialogues is only to exchange views and not to seal any official agreement.
Current status and future path of India-Pakistan relations
Since the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and cross-border terrorist activities, official bilateral talks between India and Pakistan have been completely stopped. New Delhi has always taken the stand that no formal talks are possible unless Islamabad takes strict and concrete action against the terrorist organizations growing on its soil. Diplomatic experts believe that this statement of Ram Madhav has made it clear that no matter how many conversations take place at the informal level, the Indian government is not going to compromise on the principles of its national security and sovereignty.
