Russia has recently deployed its most modern and mysterious nuclear submarine ‘Belgorod’ with dangerous ‘Poseidon’ nuclear torpedo. This is not a common weapon, but an unmanned underwater drone, which is said to be capable of destroying entire civilizations.

What is Poseidon and why is it so dangerous?

The Poseidon, known to NATO as ‘Kanyon’, is the world’s largest torpedo. It is more than 20 meters (65 feet) long. It can be called a small nuclear submarine or a very large drone, which can travel almost unlimited distances because of its small nuclear reactor. It is designed in such a way that it can move at a very high speed (about 200 kilometers per hour) in a depth of more than a kilometer in the sea.

Russia has specially prepared a submarine named ‘Belgorod’ to carry Poseidon. It is one of the longest submarines in the world, whose length is 184 meters. It acts like a ‘mothership’, which can carry 6 to 8 Poseidon torpedoes inside it. Belgorod has been designed in such a way that it can carry out secret missions in the deep sea, where it is almost impossible to catch it.

Russia says that this weapon is an answer to those countries which have advanced missile defense systems. While missiles can be intercepted in the air, Poseidon can reach its target by hiding in the depths of the ocean, making it almost impossible to intercept. Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin has also confirmed the successful test of Poseidon, after which a new debate has erupted among defense experts around the world.
