Unsolved mystery of Alha-Udal
According to local beliefs and claims of the priest, even after the doors of Maihar temple are closed at night, some invisible power comes here to worship.
Secret of the first puja: It is said that the great warriors of Bundelkhand ‘Alha’ and ‘Udal’, who were great devotees of Mother Sharda, worship the Mother first in an invisible form even today.
Fresh Flowers and Water: When the doors of the temple open in the morning, fresh flowers and water are found in the sanctum sanctorum, whereas at night even a bird cannot enter there.

Importance of Maihar in Navratri
During the nine days of Navratri, Maihar is thronged by devotees.
Climbing Trikuta Mountain: Devotees climb 1063 steps to reach the shrine. Now ropeway facility is also available here.
Wish fulfillment: It is believed that the devotees who light the Akhand Jyoti here during Navratri or have darshan of the Mother Goddess, all their difficult obstacles are removed.
Music and Sadhana: Maihar is also called the ‘city of music’. The great musician Ustad Alauddin Khan was also an ardent devotee of Mother Sharda.
Mythology of Shaktipeeth
When Lord Shiva was performing Tandav over the mortal remains of Mother Sati, Lord Vishnu cut Sati’s body into parts with the Sudarshan Chakra. Wherever Sati’s body parts fell, Shaktipeeths were built there. It is considered very sacred because the golden necklace of Mata fell in Maihar.
Darshan time and precautions
Time: The temple is usually open from 5 am to 8 pm.
Caution: It is prohibited to stay on the hill at night. As per administrative rules, the temple premises are vacated after the aarti.
