News India Live, Digital Desk: When the great war of religion and unrighteousness broke out in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, the world’s most powerful army ‘Narayani Sena’ supported the Kauravas. This was the same army which was prepared by Lord Shri Krishna himself. But do you know why despite Krishna being the incarnation of Vishnu, his own army stood against the Pandavas? This incident recorded in the pages of history is not only an example of strategic skill, but it is also the story of a test of promise and religion, which decided the outcome of the Mahabharata war.
Competition between Arjun and Duryodhana: Krishna had given two conditions
After the declaration of war, when Arjun and Duryodhana reached Dwaraka to ask for help, Shri Krishna was in sleep. After waking up, he presented two options to both of them: on one side they would be themselves (but would not take up weapons) and on the other side there would be their invincible ‘Narayani Sena’. Arjuna without wasting a moment chose the unarmed Krishna, while Duryodhana considered himself lucky to have a huge army. This very election decided that the Pandavas would have the ‘path to victory’ (Krishna) and the Kauravas would have only ‘numbers’ (army).
What was ‘Akshauhini’ army? Understand the mathematics of Chaturangi force
Lord Krishna’s Narayani army was an ‘Akshauhini’ army, which was considered the largest military unit of ancient times. It was called ‘Chaturangini’ because it included four major parts: elephant, chariot, horsemen and foot soldiers. According to the scriptures, an Akshauhini army consisted of 21,870 chariots, 21,870 elephants, 65,610 horsemen and 1,09,350 infantry. Overall, this group of more than 10 lakh warriors was so powerful that it was considered almost impossible for any warrior to defeat it.
Bhishma and Drona were also impressed by the skill of this army.
Narayani Sena was the most deadly contingent among the 11 Akshauhini armies of the Kauravas. It included warriors from brave Yadav clans like ‘Andhak’ and ‘Vrishni’. This army was being led by a great man like Kritavarma himself. During the war, this army had caused huge damage to the Pandavas’ army. However, ultimately even this huge force could not stand against the strategic guidance of Krishna and Arjuna’s Gandiva. This story teaches us that no matter how great the means, if the end and the charioteer are not right, then defeat is certain.
