But today, when the investigation report of the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has come out, the truth that has come out can make even a stone-hearted person cry. The truth is that Deepu was innocent and could have been saved.
A false accusation and a ‘conspiracy’ related death
Bangladesh’s elite force RAB has clearly said that no evidence of blasphemy has been found against Dipu Chandra Das. They searched his social media, questioned people, but no one knows what made him say that? The RAB commander says, “We tried again and again to find out who he said what to whom, but no eyewitnesses were found. It was just a rumour.”
Just imagine, a 25-30 year old boy, whose ailing father and wife were waiting for him at home, was lynched by a mob just on the basis of a rumour.
“The factory made him a scapegoat?”
The most shocking and angering thing that has come to light in the investigation is the attitude of the factory managers. It is reported from the reports and RAB that when the crowd gathered outside the factory and started creating ruckus, the responsible people present there chose an “easy path” instead of saving Deepu or calling the police.
It is being said that to save the factory from the anger of the mob, the managers first made Dipu write his resignation and then Pushed him out of the gate, into the hands of that dreaded mob. The meaning is clear that to save one’s own skin and property, a person’s life was traded. Police also say that if they had been informed in time, perhaps Deepu would have been alive today.
10 arrested, but will Deepu return?
Now when there is hue and cry all over the world, Bangladesh administration has woken up. So far, about 10-12 people including the factory manager have been arrested in this case. The interim government is now talking about “justice”. But the question is, where was this administration when humanity itself was dead?
This incident is not just a ‘murder’, it is a slap on the system where rumors become bigger than the law and an innocent man becomes the victim of “mobocracy”. Deepu is gone, but his half-dead corpse will always ask questions “What was my fault?”
