According to the mythological story of Som Pradosh Vrat, in ancient times there lived a poor Brahmin woman in a city. After the death of her husband, she had no means of livelihood, so she used to go out early in the morning to beg with her young son and support herself and her son with that. One day when the Brahmin was returning from begging, she found a boy seriously injured and groaning on the way. The kind Brahmin woman brought the boy to her home. Actually, that boy was the prince of Vidarbha country. The enemies attacked his kingdom, took his father captive and took over the entire kingdom, due to which he was forced to wander from place to place.
Governance and happiness returned by the grace of Shiva
One day, while staying in the Brahmini’s house, the prince was seen by a Gandharva girl named Anshumati and she fell in love with him. The next day Anshumati came to meet the prince with her parents. He also liked the prince very much. After a few days, Lord Shiva himself appeared to Anshumati’s parents in a dream and ordered them to solemnize the marriage of the prince and Anshumati, which they followed. On the other hand, the poor Brahmin woman always observed Pradosh fast as per the rules. With the virtuous influence of the same Pradosh fast of Brahmini and the help of Gandharvaraja’s army, the prince again attacked Vidarbha kingdom, drove away the enemies and regained the lost kingdom of his father.
Expressing his gratitude, the prince appointed the Brahmin’s son as the Prime Minister of his kingdom. It is believed that just as the greatness of Pradosh Vrat of Brahmini removed her and the prince’s sorrows and days passed by, in the same way Lord Shankar removes the troubles of all his true devotees.
