Today, just after the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the doors of Badrinath Dham were opened amidst Vedic chanting and melodious tunes of the Army Band. According to tradition, the lock of the temple was opened with three different keys, which were held by the representative of the Tehri king, the Haq-Haqukdhari and the Rawal (chief priest). As soon as the doors were opened, first of all the ‘Ghrit Kambal’ (blanket smeared with ghee) was removed from the idol of the Lord and the devotees were shown the eternal light which paves the way to salvation.

With the opening of doors, the famous Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand has gained momentum. Despite the severe cold since morning, thousands of devotees were seen standing in queues chanting ‘Jai Badri Vishal’.
